finally watched Avatar. Here's my take: Apocalypse Now meets Happy Feet meets Dances with Wolves meets Star Wars meets Fantasia meets Pearl Harbor meets Harry Potter.

Enjoyed Temple Grandin though.

hahaha, kathy! speaking of pearl harbor...that really could have been alot better. they didn't put much of a story in that one, did they? but good looking characters, i must say!!!

HAHA! @ Kathy. I was never even was tempted to see Avatar. You just validated my choice (not that I needed validation Lol).
I also enjoyed Temple Grandin. I think Clair Danes did a superb job. I read Temple's book years ago. When I would try to explain it to people and all that she achieved I would get the strangest looks. The mind is an amazing thing. Also three cheers to her mother who never gave up on her!

i know i'm always the voice of weird older movies ....but that's what i end up seeing since i don't go to the theaters so much. i end up renting or catching what's on. but "phenomenon" is a wonderful little movie with john travolta. i love "little movies" that are good. i'm not in need of big productions. i just like a good story, which this is.

Just rewatched She's The Man (one of my favorites based on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and starring Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum) last night. Love it. Also rewatched Peter Pan. <3

It's so funny. And the fact that it's a modern adaptation of Shakespeare makes it entertaining.

no no no...it's nothing like that. it's set back in the day. but it has a cool plot. you have to see it to know what i mean. that is on the "lisa insists steen sees" list with dead poets!!!

Going on the list! I just got a tv in my room, so once I get a remote that works (the power button is missing, I'm not being lazy) and a cable to hook up my computer (and some free time), I can finally start on this list!

i just watched "the graduate" as if it were the first time.i haven't seen it in a long time. i've grown in alot of ways, apparently, because this movie was SO rich for me this time. from the perspective of a storyteller it's absolutely brilliantly done. if there is any chance you haven't seen it or haven't seen it in awhile, watch if just for the writing.no,the acting. no,the directing....! it'sbrilliant!!! it's worth a few times around!

Caught part of an all-time favorite "Last of the Dog Men". It never fails to give me chicken skin! Wish I could have stuck around to watch the whole thing.

what's that about, elle? i'm watching TCM tonight on tv, cuz it's terrific. first i saw the graduate and now i'm onto summer of '42 which i haven't seen since i was a teenager. beautiful story!!!

Watched Shutter Island: predictable and boring. Harry Brown with MIchael Caine: Brutal! Next up: Tyler Perry's I Got Married Too. Will report later.

Briefly, a bounty hunter finds a tribe of Native Americans thought to have died out a hundred years before. Tom Berringer and Barbara Hershey (who plays an anthropologist who helps him) star. A little history, a little suspense, a little love story and a lot of "what ifs".

Elle, is that the one where Tom has a full frontal shot?

I may actually get around to watching Dead Poet's Society this weekend... but don't quote me on that.

Men Who Stare at Goats - me, too!!! Edward Scissorhands just bothers me. Can you imagine the thought process that preceded that idea???? Hmmm, lets create a character with ...no, not hands...hooks, no...spatulas, no...feet, NO! I've got it...let's use scissors!! WTH???

i have never seen scissorhands, because just the thought of all those blades grosses me out!!!! i don't even like my own hedge clippers!!!! no no no!!!!

did you guys see "revolutionary road"? what did you think?

i just stumbled upon "second hand lions"( think that's the title) with robert duvall and michael caine, and it has some of the funniest moments i have ever seen!!

LOVE Secondhand Lions. I dated a guy once whose family was huge into movies and I bonded with his mom purely because I liked that movie and she would watch it every day if she could. Haha.

oh my gosh, there is is so much wisdom in that one little movie! i love love love it! glad you do too!!!

well i finally FINALLY saw revolutionary road. what a POWERFUL movie. the tragedy of it made it borderline towards movie that are just too awful for me such as house of sand and fog. but this had something different in it. the dialogue was fascinating. so so well written.the cinematography added to the story. but the essential human quality of the relationship and the theme of the bravery it takes to step into a better life was what set this apart.you were routing for the characters. however i will say that the kate character..april...was a tad over the top.still, there is a big message in this film. i would say the biggest thing here though was leo's performance. he gets more gifted every time i see him. he's a genius actor!

Not watching much this weekend Lisa but have to totally disagree on Revolutionary Road. I could not stand that movie! The characters were so shallow that I could care less about what happened to them. If I recall correctly I tried watching it twice and both times I dozed off.

you think they were shallow? hmmm. i'm not sure if i would use the word shallow,but i can certainly see why you didn't like them. there was a coldness in her that i wasn't sure what to make of.i didn't know if she was nuts or what. they tried to show that they had been happy once,but they didn't do a good job of that. i found him interesting. i think they wanted some meaning out of life, so i'm not sure shallow is the word i'd use....how do you mean?

excellent way of putting it,maggie.she was practically exploding out of her role as a 50's housewife.she couldn't have been more bored.and he had no idea what he wanted.or he DID want what she wanted, but he was simply too scared.his tragic flaw. it was hard to know how they got there exactly. but there was such an emphasis on conformity back then. it's amazing how few choices there were back then. such brilliant people all over the place stuck into little houses into little roles...

oh my gosh, you guys. i'm watching one of my fave classics "please don't eat the daisies". and the husband says to doris day....you'll meet lots of interesting people. and doris answers, oh interesting people don't want to get to know housewives. and he says but you're so much more than a housewife. i just thought that was fascinating in light of the revolutionary road conversation!!!

Watched Dead Poets Society today. All I have to say is: I want to live deliberately. :)

dead poets society is pretty amazing. it was cold yesterday so i watched It's a wonderful life...felt like christmas

i just love dead poets, dakota. steen had never seen it, and i had been pushing her to see it for a few months. so i'm so glad she did. her future work could be inspired by it. it's a wonderful life is good any time of year, because the message is so universal! ilove that film so much. jimmy stewart is so fabulous....

he's unreal. watched breakfast at tiffany's the other day as well...i wish jimmy and audrey were alive today to make more amazing movies

i'm so glad you're a young person who watches older films,dakota.i have had alot of 20 something students that will REFUSE to watch anything in black and white. i've had to drag them kicking and screaming to watching things like to kill a mockingbird,and then they thank me. but it frightens me how many great movies young people won't see thinking they are "old fashioned"

one of the best movies EVER EVER EVER!!!!

Watched World's Greatest Dad with Robin Williams last night. Not a movie that I would pick out. I actually thought, I was going to be watching a comedy. This was a dark comedy. This was however, a movie with a message that was worth seeing about truth & settling. Just be prepared for strong language, crudeness, and disturbing images.

Finally got to see The Blind Side. It was exactly what I expected and I loved it!! Sandra Bullock is so freakin' cool. I think she might have been a contender for Scarlett in our GWTW remake! ; )

you know what....sandra probably COULD play scarlet.i have concerns about the blind side that i mentioned before. there's nothing wrong with this story...it's a good story in and of itself. and she's certainly great in it as are the others. i have a problem with the underlying messages though..
